Aboudramane chez jean marc patras / galerie

As presented by Okwui Enwezor, artistic director of the 2° Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporaneo de Sevilla BIACS 2 (26.10.2006 - 8.1.2007) catalogue: “Born in Ivory Coast but living and working in Paris, Aboudramane has created a vernacular architecture that coexists with present sensibilities about dwelling within a given space. Focusing specifically on forms that function as architectural possibilities, the artist’s sculpture references traditional contexts of community and suggest a fantastical, almost futuristic architecture. These structures reference different moments, ranging from the spiritual (Le hangar du sorcier, 1992), to the everyday (Coiffeur, 1990), to the presence of death in the midst of dwelling (Village avec tombes, 1988). Far from naďve models, Aboudramane’s structures are meticulously created and display a variety of domestic spaces, presenting scenes of neighborliness that possess oneiric qualities.” Casa Bianca
