The book “Rois d’Afrique” by Daniel Lainé was published in 1991 by Arthaud Editors. In the epilogue, Jean François Bizot wrote “...it was essential to show the dynasties that exist in Africa, similar to the grand dukes of Liechtenstein or Luxembourg, because those too go back to the times of African Charlemagnes”.

Sixteen years later, from this long and laborious project (marked by frequent travelling from 1988 to 1991) we are presented with a vibrant photographic account of the 1980s and 1990s that defines an irrefutable photographic style very much ahead of its time, with magestic, posed, sumptuous plates.

In time for “the World's First Photography Biennale”, Photoquai, when the walls of the city are covered with wonderful prints, it is of crucial importance to offer the best and latest photographic reproduction technology, as well as the space of our gallery, to these striking works of art, to the Kings of Africa. That is what will happen from 27 March to 18 April 2008, at the Jean Marc Patras gallery.
